It's kind of eerie when one is poking around Dreamwidth how many seemingly abandoned journals there are. I understand that a lot of them might be restricted, posts visible to friends only but it gives quite the ghost town vibe

You find some where people have only made a couple of posts so you assume they were trying blogging out but found it didn't work for them, but they left the journal there, without deleting it.

You also find some where people have used it for years but then appear to have suddenly stopped using it. It makes you wonder what happened to all these random people that you've never even heard of.

(I haven't gone to their profiles to look and see when their post was because that feels a little too stalkery - I don't know why that feels different to just randomly wandering around Dreamwidth to people's journals, but it does!)

The ghost town feeling is a very apt description and something I unfortunately really associate with DW. I roleplay here, too, and the amount of abandoned journals that were never even used in that capacity is overwhelming. I wish more people would delete journals, though, so the usernames could be reused by other people, but that's just a selfish wish.

I do wonder what happened to all these people, too.

I tried to join a few communities and found they hadn't been active in 10+ years! It does feel kinda dead on here sometimes.

Yeah, it is kind of like a ghost town. I have enough interaction on my journal to sustain my interest. I don't have any other social media accounts so I always assume people are doing their connecting on other platforms or that they have more RL friends than I do :) But it is sad when comms go into hibernation and challenges aren't embraced by more people.

Yeah this is my first time back on DW after like 10 years (I moved from LJ to DW when everyone was originally jumping ship) and it's so much less active than it used to be. But it's nice to see there are still some active comms and people using the site even if it's not as boppin' as it used to be! Mostly I assume the people have left for social media sites like Twitter and Insta and such these days.

But it is enjoyable to wander around Dreamwidth, to discover different people with different ideas. It feels almost nomadic.
