One of the areas of anthropology that I enjoyed learning about but I'm not hugely up to speed on is folklore studies - essentially it's devoted to the study of folklore. I have more than a passing interest in folklore, the oral traditions shared by a particular group of people, culture or subculture. This includes tales, myths, legends, proverbs, poems, jokes, etc etc.

Folklore also includes customary lore, taking actions for folk beliefs, and the forms and rituals of celebrations such as Christmas, weddings, folk dances, and initiation rites. Each one of these, either singly or in combination, is considered a folklore artifact or traditional cultural expression. Just as essential as the form, folklore also encompasses the transmission of these artifacts from one region to another or from one generation to the next

I'm keen to learn more, especially how the environment that shapes the culture influences the stories that are told. So many cultures have, for example, a creation myth or a great flood but the details change depending on the physical environment the society is either based in or came from.

Luckily in this wonderful age of information, many universities have at least their reading lists online so I can delve into more reading.
